Westside Water Store Weekly Update + Water is top of Mind

Hi Westside Water Store Friends,

I hope my email finds you hydrated.  With this week’s email let’s start it off by talking about one of our favorite subjects over here at Westside Water Store.  That subject being water.  Why not, water adopts the shape of its vessel, water is sometimes a trickle and other times a wild ocean.  Water can have a location called headwaters and in Santa Cruz flow on down from there and meet up with its neighbor the ocean.  Water can have color that matches the sky and other times like the water we serve at the store it is clear as the air around you and you can see right through it to the other side.

Things are happening here at Westside Water Store!   Our brand new in store water filling station is hanging out in the front of the store and getting very close to being fully operational. We appreciate everyone’s patience as we finish the final steps to get everything flowing perfectly. We’re almost there, and we can’t wait to introduce you to the different types of premium water we’ll soon be offering in store.

In the meantime, we are STILL OFFERING FREE WATER FILL-UPS while we complete the final setup but this will only last another week. So come on down, bring your bottles, and take advantage while it lasts!

Another option quickly coming down the preverbal water pipe, we can start filing sprinter vans and RV’s any day now, it is very needed in Santa Cruz and we are here for that community.  They need access to fresh clean water whether starting a journey or in the middle of an adventure.  If that is you, come visit and quickly bulk fill up your ride.

Clean water comes in many forms including keeping our shared water ways clean, we want to give a huge shoutout and thank you to the amazing local volunteers for helping clean up areas around the San Lorenzo River last weekend. Seeing our community come together to protect and care for our local environment is inspiring.

As a small family owned business in a community focused on clean water and sustainability, Westside Water Store supports ongoing efforts to protect our beautiful coast from offshore oil drilling plans. Keeping our oceans healthy and our beaches clean matters to all of us here in Santa Cruz, and we’re grateful to be part of a community that continues showing up for the environment in positive ways.

Before I sign off for the week, don’t forget that we are running a May Filtration Special!

For the entire month of May, you can purchase a Pureway Whole Home Filtration System with 0% financing if paid in full within 12 months. Clean, filtered water throughout your entire home has never been easier and we want to keep the options open.

Speaking of options? Westside Water Store also offers a high-quality under-the-sink filtration system that is perfect for clean drinking water right from your kitchen tap.  It is a system that is easy to install and you can take it with you when you move.

Stop by the store, ask questions, fill up your bottles, and stay tuned.

Thank you for supporting local clean water and our Santa Cruz community.

And remember: you, me, and the water makes three as we really are just getting started in this journey!

Stay refreshed,

Warmly,

Viki

Westside Water Store Weekly Update + Hello sunshine goodbye rain

Hello everyone,

Last week’s email was all about looking forward and honoring traditions. This week’s email is about us: Westside Water Store. Right now for us it’s all about transitions and the journey that occurs when you shed the old way of doing something and embrace the new way.

We’ve been planning and looking forward to this transition to something new and expanded for our water filing options for many months, and it is now happening at 1715 Mission Street in the Palm Center.

We are finally rearranging the store, moving things around, and preparing to install our new multi-bay water filling station. We are aiming to have it up and running as soon as early next week. This is a big step forward for us, and we can’t wait for fresh, mineral-rich water to flow across all seven filling stations.

During this transition, we encourage you to continue stopping by to check in and fill up. The water is still flowing, and our store hours remain the same while we install the new system. If you’d like to fill up before any temporary changes and have one final participation in the old ways we recommend stopping by soon. At this time, Friday morning is the only planned water outage window.

We also want to let you know about another great community event coming up.

On Saturday, May 16th, from 4:30–8:00 PM, Impact Santa Cruz is hosting a health and wellness event at Hwy 17 Studios, 831 Almar Avenue, on the Westside. We’ll be there with our water, alongside speakers and a variety of other wellness vendors. It’s a great opportunity to connect, learn, and be part of the local wellness community. We hope to see you there!

We will have more about this event in next week’s email.

Thank you for being part of our community.

We truly appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you soon.

Here’s to Mothers Day, clear heads, and good water.

And remember: you, me, and the water makes three as we really are just getting started in this journey!

Westside Water Store Weekly Update + A Fresh Start for May

Happy almost May!

In the spirit of May Day with this email I want to look forward and not reflect on the past week, month or year. As there is a world of May Day traditions, I say let’s pick one and run with it.  There is dancing around poles for fertility and community, bonfires to ward off evil spirits, lily of the valley bouquets for good luck, May Day is Lei Day for aloha and nature, kissing under a blossoming cherry tree for lasting love, all the good stuff that helps us transition to a new season.  I like the one where people will rise early and walk out in the morning dew gathering it for luck, health, and renewal. It’s one of those simple little rituals that still feels surprisingly modern: step outside, greet the day, and gather the first morning dew—the purest water found in nature—to symbolize a fresh start and a healthy life.

This time of year is all about fresh starts, better habits, and feeling your best anyway. Your upcoming week, month or year does begin with the water you drink, the air you breathe and the sunlight you bask in. Start your May Day early and let the traditions last all the way to the end.

At the store, we’ve been talking about balance in our water by keeping the good minerals and reducing what doesn’t belong. With that in mind, we are proud to introduce the new Pure Way Vital filtration system, a standalone under-sink system designed to bring you clean, balanced, great-tasting water right from your kitchen tap. This standalone under-sink option is a complete drinking-water system for homes that may not have the option or want a whole-home system.

Pure Way Vital is also designed to help create mineral-based alkaline drinking water not by adding chemical additives, but by retaining and supporting balance through existing minerals naturally found in our water like magnesium, calcium, potassium, and sodium.

If you’ve been thinking about better drinking water at home whether through a whole-home Pure Way system or one of the new under-sink Pure Way Vital options stop by the store or give us a call. We’re happy to talk through the different filtration systems we offer and help you figure out what makes the most sense for your home.

Here’s to May, fresh starts, clear heads, and good water.

And remember: you, me, and the water makes three — we are just getting started!

Warmly,

Viki

Westside Water Store Weekly Update 🍃 + Minerals in the water

Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone had a great week and stayed hydrated.  Yesterday was Earth Day, hoping everyone did find time to go outside, take a break from their work week and enjoy the sunny second half of Earth Day.  🌎 I enjoyed seeing everyone that came through the store on Wednesday and shared their day’s adventures with me. I want to take a moment this week to talk a little more about the water you’re drinking from the Westside Water Store; because I get a great question all the time: “Do you add minerals to your water?” The answer is no, we don’t add anything to the water.  Our store filter is not reverse osmosis.  The minerals in our water we serve to you, our customers, are naturally occurring, coming straight from the source. These include calcium, magnesium, and potassium, the same minerals your body already recognizes.

That brings me to one of the waters many of you come in for: our alkaline water. Our alkaline water has a higher pH than regular drinking water, typically between 8 and 9. But what really matters is how it gets there. We don’t use chemical additives or artificial processes to raise the pH. Instead, it’s those naturally occurring minerals that create that balance.

And those minerals do more than just affect pH: They may help your body retain calcium more efficiently, support bone density, and improve hydration at a cellular level compared to neutral water. The store filtration system we use is not magic; its modern technology working on the modern water concerns we are hearing and reading about.  It’s the same point of entry for the whole house system we install in homes around the community.  We want minerals in our water and we don’t want various byproducts in our water.

If you haven’t tried our alkaline water yet, I invite you to come in and experience it for yourself. A lot of our regular customers notice the difference, and I always enjoy hearing your feedback.

At the store we have come to realize we are not only a water store that offers mineral rich drinking water to our community but we are also in the water vessel business and really have come to appreciate and enjoy that side of being a community water store, here is a line of crocks we have started carrying.  I haven’t figured out which design I like more.

As always, thank you for supporting the Westside Water Store. I appreciate each and every one of you. Thanks as always for being part of our community, and I look forward to seeing you soon.

And remember you, me and the water makes three, we are just getting started! 😍

Westside Water Store Weekly Update + Yoga this Saturday Morning

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to share a quick update on what’s happening at the Westside Water Store!

First—I hope everyone had a great week and stayed hydrated. It wasn’t quite as warm as those hot stretches in March, Mother Earth did her part and gave the soil a good drink. It’s always nice to see spring showers.  Does this mean May flowers?

We are getting closer to having our in-store water filling stations up and running. Soon, you’ll be able to come in and fill up quickly and easily. I’ll be here to assist you, and I’m always happy to help carry your water out to your car if you need a hand.

This week we had to put on our thinking cap for the city.  They wanted to know how heavy the station is, well thanks to one of our customers who not only hydrates by day but is also a retired architect helped in a major way.  The station is made of 16 gauge stainless steel and one square foot of material weighs 2.69lbs, the station is made of of approximately 93 square feet of 16 gauge stainless steel or 250lbs, anyway you get the idea and long story short we couldn’t be a community water store without you, our awesome and diverse customers helping in our journey.

Exciting news, this Saturday morning, April 18, we’re hosting a  yoga session right here in the store. Denise Diani will be leading the class with NAAM Yoga from 8:30–9:30 AM.  Her website is: www.holistichealingpathways.com.

Please come and check it out.  NAAM Yoga, what a great way to start your Saturday morning in the spring season of our Monterey Bay.

I was reading how the Northern Yellow Warbler is currently migrating through the area right now, if you go out this week you have a legit shot at seeing one, come by the store, do some NAAM Yoga, fill your water bottle, swing by the Westside farmers market and then go birding, there is so much great stuff to do around here.

Thanks as always for being part of our community, and I look forward to seeing you soon.

And remember you, me and the water makes three, we are just getting started!

Westside Water Store Weekly Update + Sound Healing & Reiki Event this Saturday

Hello Everyone,

We’ve got some exciting updates to share this week from your neighborhood water store on Mission Street!

First, progress is moving forward behind the scenes as we get closer to installing our in-store water stations. We’re currently finalizing details with the city and expect to have a clearer timeline very soon. We appreciate your patience, as we both know good things are on the way, and we can’t wait to bring the new water filing options to you.

As I mentioned last week, we’re so excited to host a special Sound Healing + Reiki session right here in the store on Saturday, April 11 at 7:00 PM. This will be a relaxing and restorative experience, and it’s just one example of the kinds of wellness-focused offerings we’re planning to bring into the space. We’d love to see you there!  Come enjoy one of the great dinner options our neighbors at the Palm Center offer and stop by afterwards.

As the weather warms and spring settles in, it’s the perfect time to stay on top of your hydration. Whether you’re soaking up the sun, getting active outdoors, or heading to the beach, the mountains, or anywhere in between—everything feels better when you’re well hydrated.

We’re here to support your health with clean, high-quality water. Stop by and fill your bottles with fresh, mineral-rich water before enjoying all that Santa Cruz County and beyond has to offer.

It was an interesting week on the national water front—if you missed it:

On April 2, 2026, Lee Zeldin announced that the Environmental Protection Agency is officially designating microplastics and pharmaceuticals as contaminants in drinking water, identifying them as a top priority for American families.

“I can’t think of an issue that hits closer to home for American families than the safety of their drinking water,” Zeldin said at EPA Headquarters. ~ amazing

As these concerns gain recognition at the national level, it’s a good reminder that solutions exist today. The whole-home filtration systems we offer at the store are designed to help reduce a wide range of emerging contaminants—so you can feel more confident in the water throughout your home.

Thanks for being part of our journey- you, me and the water makes three, we are just getting started!

Westside Water Store Weekly Update + Sound Healing & Reiki Event on April 11

Hi Everyone,

I hope you’re all doing well and staying hydrated as the morning sun continues to arrive a little earlier and the evenings begin to stretch a little longer..

I wanted to share this week’s update from the Westside Water Store.

Most importantly, we’ve really enjoyed connecting with both old and new water friends over the past week. New faces have been finding us, and familiar ones continue to stop by for the clean, fresh water we’re so happy to offer.

We’re still in the process of installing our water filling stations, and it’s taking just a little longer than expected to get everything fully set up.  We can’t wait to move past this phase and into the next as we continue growing with our community.

In the meantime, we are still offering water to the community, so please feel free to stop by and fill up. We’re here and happy to support your hydration needs while we complete the final steps and wait for permit approval from the city.

I also wanted to give a special shout out – and a reminder – about our upcoming Sound Healing + Reiki event happening on Saturday, April 11th at 7 PM at the store.

Let everything go and relax deeply into your yoga mat. The high frequency Crystal Tones singing bowls will raise your frequency and bring you to a state of coherence. Coherence is when all parts harmoniously work together. Your breath and heart rate will slow down. Your heart and mind will form a connection.

Sandy will be playing a myriad of high frequency instruments taking you on a journey of the soul. Jamie will assist with the energy work of reiki to deepen the healing experience. These sessions when done regularly can support you and bring calm into life no matter what the circumstances are. We can’t wait for you to experience this!

It’s going to be a beautiful evening to relax, reset, and connect. The flyers with full details are included below. You can sign up on the website or pay at the door. The offering will be $35 per person.

Please bring a yoga mat, pillow and bolster. Think of anything that will make you more comfortable. Sandy and Jamie will have eye pillows and blankets. Sandy will also have a couple extra mats if needed.

I’ll include a sign-up link below—just click to reserve your spot. We truly hope you can make it. Here is an easy link to the SoulEssence website.

Thank you again for your continued support. It means so much to be building this space with you.

The Mission Behind the Water: Connecting the Dots

The Mission Behind the Water: Connecting the Dots

(Pure Way’s Whole Home Filtration Story)
Clean fresh water is universal, the path to want it is personal. Pure Way’s founder Owen Boyd
has a path to clean fresh water that is the definition of Steve Jobs’ “Connecting the Dots”
mantra: You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking
backward. As in, you can’t always see the river mouth at the headwaters but looking back after
river running, your personal water journey flows like a clean structured mountain stream if you
let it. Owen Boyd let it.

At the start, Owen was just doing the next right thing. He was learning, building and adjusting
while reacting to the world around him. Kind of like playing in the band, some folks trust to
reason others trust to might but we know it comes out right. — trust the process, keep your
water bottles open, and let the flow hydrate your journey.
Owen Boyd isn’t the person behind the counter at Westside Water Store filling 5 gallon jugs.
He’s nowhere near the Westside of Santa Cruz, he’s an innovator on the other side of the
country and the person behind the Pure Way whole home water filtration system, a national
brand in the residential water filtration space.

Westside Water Store wants to share his story with you because his standards line up with what
we care about at our store: clean, reliable water in your home, at an affordable price without the
drama of contracts and overly complicated filtration systems.

Tech + Law + Dental Labs with a splash of family health
(Precision that is focused on healthy choices)
On paper, Owen’s background can look like three distinctly different watersheds:
● Dental/medical labs (hands-on, real-world health stakes)
● Law (standards, accountability, how systems hold up under pressure)
● Computer science at Johns Hopkins (pattern recognition, optimization, obsessing
over what’s measurable)

From the headwaters, those streams don’t “match” but down at the river mouth, they connect
perfectly. Dental labs taught him what happens when details are ignored and someone’s health
is affected. Law sharpened his instincts to prove things, not just claim them. Tech trained him to
design systems that are precise, repeatable, and built to last.
Early in this journey life hit hard: his son was born missing a left hand, and Owen connected
that tragedy to mercury exposure linked to his wife’s dental work (amalgams) during
pregnancy. Not a blame game. Just a painful lesson and a reason to get serious about what
ends up in our personal bodies and in our shared environment.
So he did what he always does by connecting the dots and staying focused on his family’s
health, the environment around him and his natural instinct to solve a problem with a solution.

Problem to Solution

(Real-world health problems need shared solutions)
Before whole home filtration was even on his radar, Owen built dental/medical devices designed
to capture mercury waste so it wouldn’t end up in his family again or just as important
downstream in the ocean of life we all share.
He audited Stanford chemistry and cellular biology courses for a decade. Not for a
credential. For understanding. For dots that would matter later.

That’s the backbone of Pure Way and Westside Water Stores’ mindset: don’t guess, don’t hype,
don’t shortcut and build it right.

The Pure Way Whole Home Filtration Approach
Local water providers have very strict rules and standards to follow, this is meaningful to them,
to you and to me. We drink, prepare meals and bathe with the water they supply us. Westside
Water Store is grateful for this and the hard work they do to achieve this.
Owen’s lens is simple: for your home, you might want an extra layer — especially for things of
late people are reading and hearing about, like PFAS, chlorine, pharmaceuticals and volatile
organic compounds (VOCS).

The Pure Way whole-home system uses not just filtration but total system harmony in three
distinct stages to create this. Its NASA-derived nanofibers, built for high surface area and fine
filtration. It is a proprietary hi-flow/hi-capacity nano alumina anti-scale filter. It is a proprietary
microbiological nanoguard with agion silver and activated carbon filter. It is a custom catalytic
carbon block engineered filter for superior chemical reduction and clean tasting water. Most
importantly, it is for every tap in your home to be purified.

Key specs:
● removes 99.99% of contaminants
● whole-home protection (not just one faucet)
● no waste water, no electricity, no contracts
